Council of the Head of Colleges

Yale’s distinctive residential college system is anchored by fourteen colleges—Benjamin Franklin, Berkeley, Branford, Davenport, Ezra Stiles, Grace Hopper, Jonathan Edwards, Morse, Pauli Murray, Pierson, Saybrook, Silliman, Timothy Dwight, and Trumbull—each serving as a vibrant intellectual and social community. Bringing these communities together is the Council of Heads of College (CHC), composed of the fourteen Heads who lead them. The CHC plays a central role in shaping the undergraduate experience across Yale by coordinating initiatives, sharing best practices, and ensuring that policies and programming reflect both the individuality of each college and the shared mission of the university. In this way, the CHC serves as a critical bridge between the life of each residential college and the broader institutional vision.
